You have to earn the office by actually saying what people want to hear. Hillary Clinton made a faustian bargain by voting for the Iraq war resolution back on October 11, 2002. They still lost the senate.
But now she must pay the piper.
Behind a thin veneer of democracy, our form of government is not about debate or ideas or the people, but money. Properly, it should be called a plutocracy.
The formula is this: raise money so that you can hire air time and convince enough people who are not really paying attention that you have it.
Take a position when calculations show that it is politically feasible, otherwise remain milquetoast.
